Our History

Conestoga Country Club’s story is one of vision, determination, and community. Its founding members, united by a shared love of golf, found a creative way to bring their dream to life by operating a successful bowling business, which enabled them to purchase approximately 119 acres of farmland. With a desire to create something truly special, they engaged noted architect William Gordon to design the course they would build themselves. Named for the creek that winds through the property, the club was officially established on June 1, 1948, and its member-built course earned its founders the affectionate nickname “The Rock Pickers.”

Although the Conestoga Bowling Alley business that helped fund the project was destroyed by fire in September 1953, the club continued to move forward with the opening of its first clubhouse in 1955. Over the years, Conestoga has continued to grow and evolve through thoughtful environmental stewardship, the addition of bridges across Conestoga Creek, and a major clubhouse renovation completed in 2000. Throughout it all, the club has remained true to the spirit that began it all—a warm sense of belonging, pride of ownership, and a close-knit community that continues to define Conestoga today.
