Dear Members,

Overnight, Conestoga Country Club received close to 5 inches of rain, resulting in significant flooding from the Little Conestoga Creek. Several areas of the golf course including fairways and greens were impacted. At this time, both the 12th and 14th greens are submerged. Heavy debris has accumulated across the course, and at least one tree has fallen due to the storms. I’ve included photos to help illustrate the current conditions.

In preparation for the storm, our Turf Team took several proactive steps on Monday, including mowing the course and applying preventative treatments to help combat disease pressure associated with excess moisture and humidity.

The good news is that we are beginning to see water levels recede. However, additional rain is in the forecast. Once floodwaters fully crest and drain, our team will immediately begin restorative efforts, including

  • Washing silt from greens and fairways
  • Reapplying necessary chemical treatments to address disease risks
  • Restoring bunkers
  • Removing debris and addressing the downed tree, which is currently located in the 10th fairway

We are confident in Matt and his team’s ability to return the golf course to the exceptional conditions you’ve come to expect. They’ve handled flooding events like this before and are well-versed in the steps required to restore course health and playability.

Out of caution and respect for the condition of the course, we’ve made the decision to keep the golf course closed tomorrow (Wednesday). We will continue to evaluate the situation daily. Once reopened, there may be a temporary restriction on cart use to prevent the spread of turf disease and minimize damage to saturated areas.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as our team works diligently to recover from this unfortunate weather event. Our commitment to course health and member experience remains unwavering.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Gehman
